Supervisors: Partnering with Student Employees to Strengthen Your Team
Hiring a student employee doesn’t just help the student—it helps your department, too. Student employees bring fresh perspectives, campus connectivity, and valuable support to your daily operations.
Why Student Employment Benefits Your Department
Increase Capacity & Efficiency
Student employees can take on essential tasks that keep your office running smoothly, freeing up your full-time staff for more specialized work.
Gain Student Insight & Campus Connectivity
Student employees bring current student perspectives and can help your department stay connected to student needs, trends, and campus life.
Mentor and Develop Future Talent
Supervising a student employee gives you the opportunity to mentor emerging professionals, nurture their skills, and build a talent pipeline for your field.
How to Get Started as a Supervisor
- Attend Supervisor Training (Annually)
All student employment supervisors are required to attend a Student Employment Supervisor Training once per academic year to stay up-to-date on policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Submit a Job Posting
Connect with the Student Employment office to request a new position or update an existing job listing. Once your posting is approved, it will be listed on College Central Network.
- Hire a Student Employee
After offering a position to a student, complete the supervisor section of the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) form. Students cannot begin working until their COE is fully processed and approved by the Student Employment Office.
- Train & Support Your Student Employee
Schedule an onboarding session for your new hire to introduce them to your department's expectations, work environment, and specific job duties. Set clear goals and provide ongoing feedback to support their professional growth.
