We foster a learning environment in which the academic coaches are peer mentors rather than instructional replacements. What we mean by this is that the academic coaches provide support for students as they work through math problems rather than replacing instructional material. Academic coaching is successful when specific concepts are addressed and built upon.
At the MLC, expect the academic coach to ask you questions about the material and feel free to bring specific questions to your academic coaching session. We want you to succeed, and for us to be able to assist you to the best of our ability, we ask that you bring: an idea of what concept you need help with as well as any notes or course materials that we can refer to during the academic coaching session.
