What do I need for an online course?

Computer hardware

Minimum system requirements:

  • A desktop or laptop, no more than five years old
  • Operating System
    • Windows 10 or 11—Windows S-Mode is not supported
    • macOS 14.0 or newer
    • ChromeOS Longterm Support Channel or newer
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 2 Ghz dual-core processor
  • Webcam, microphone, and speakers or headphones—waived for students with specific accommodations
  • Access to a printer is recommended

Publisher content and third-party tools that are launched from within Canvas may not function correctly on smartphones and tablets. Read more about Canvas on mobile devices.

Chromebooks work with most eLearning-supported tools, but some programs of study may require software that won’t run on a Chromebook. For example, computer programming, accounting, and graphic design courses may all require software that is incompatible with a Chromebook. Check with your program for more information.

Reliable internet access

  • Minimum of 3 Mbps upload and download. Check your speed
  • Stable connectivity – if your WiFi is unstable, a wired/ethernet connection is recommended for exams
  • Comcast Internet Essentials for those who qualify – discounted rate for home internet.

All of our students have access to Office 365. Find a link to it in the Student Tools drop-down menu at the top of the website or directly through Office 365 and log in with your student Bigfoot email address as your username and your password.

Respondus Lockdown Browser Support

LockDown Browser is a locked browser for taking quizzes in Canvas. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. If a Canvas quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser.
