Running Start Placement

You may be eligible to bypass placement testing based on your high school GPA and/or test scores. You can bypass testing if you meet one of the following criteria:

• Your high school transcript reflects three semesters of a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0 

• You scored a 530 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing portion of the SAT

• You scored a combined average of 19​ or higher on the English and reading portions of the ACT 

• Smarter Balanced: You achieved a level 4, level 3 or a Level 2 + B or higher in Senior English

You can learn more about alternative placement on our Alternative Placement page. Please note that there is a $15 processing fee for the evaluation of qualifying high school transcripts and/or test scores used for placement at SFCC.

Potential Running Start students who do not qualify to bypass the placement test are required to take the DSP Challenge. To take the DSP Challenge you will need to: 

1. Call our front desk at 509-533-3401 to make an appointment for Running Start testing. Be sure to mention Running Start! Have your ctclink ID number ready; you will need it. You must cancel 24 hours prior to your appointment if you are unable to attend your scheduled testing appointment, or you may be charged a $30 NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee.

2. Visit the Cashiers window (Building 17) or call 509-533-3569 and pay the $30 testing fee. Be sure to get a receipt or a receipt number.

3. Bring the testing fee receipt and valid photo identification to your testing appointment.

If you would like to continue math courses at your high school, speak to your high school counselor.
