Heather Bellerud – Guided Pathways Specialist, Visual, Performing, and Applied Arts

Heather Bellerud (she/her) joined the staff at SFCC in December 2016, shortly after moving to Spokane with her family. She has a broad range of experience in education and the arts; she has worked as a cultural and natural resource interpretive ranger for the National Park Service in New Mexico and Arizona, taught art and environmental education in Colorado and Western Washington, and managed museum education programming for school and family audiences. Heather is an artist, a gardener, a bit of a bookworm, and a cargo bike nerd. She is happy to be serving as a Guided Pathways Pathways Specialist in the Visual, Performing, and Applied Arts Pathway.

Dr. Ashley DeMoville serves as Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Spokane Falls Community College, where she leads a broad range of transfer, creative arts, and professional technical programs. With more than 20 years of experience as an educator and academic leader, she is committed to expanding access to higher education, fostering student success, and supporting innovative teaching and learning.

Since joining SFCC in 2017, Dr. DeMoville has served in a variety of faculty and leadership roles. Today, she leads one of the college's largest and most diverse academic divisions, providing strategic leadership for programs that support student transfer, workforce development, and community engagement.

Her work centers on equity, culturally responsive education, and transformative leadership. An award-winning educator, she has received the Washington State Governor's Arts and Heritage Award, the Washington Education Association's Elaine Akagi Cultural Awareness Award, the NISOD Excellence Award, and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education Prize for Innovation in Teaching.

Active in regional and national arts leadership, Dr. DeMoville serves as Co-Chair of the American College Theater Festival, Region VII, and remains engaged with theater organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest. Her scholarship focuses on anti-racism in theater education and organizational change in higher education, including her nationally recognized dissertation, The Pursuit of Anti-Racism in University Theater.

Dr. DeMoville holds a BA in Theatre from the University of Hawaii at Mnoa, an MFA in Directing from Victoria University of Wellington in Aotearoa New Zealand, and an EdD in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California.

Sunshine Giesler – Interior Design Instructor

Sunshine Giesler joined the faculty at Spokane Falls Community College in 2021 and teaches a variety of courses including hand drafting and CAD.

Sunshine earned her Masters of Interior Design from WSU in 2008. She was the director of the interior design program at Monterey Peninsula College from 2008-16 and loved her time there. She currently practices interior design using primarily an e-design format with her firm Sunshine & Lew Interior Design.

Tanja Huffman – Interior Design Instructor (Program Lead)

Tanja Huffman is the department chair and primary advisor for the interior design program. She joined the Spokane Falls Community College faculty in 2002 and teaches across the curriculum, including design studios, lighting design, materials and building systems. She is also a member of SFCC’s Facilities and Grounds Committee and the Academic Consulting Leadership Team.

Katie Peterson – Instructional Tech, CBE Lab

Katie Peterson joined the staff of the Visual and Performing Arts division in December 2022. She loves learning and has three degrees to prove it! She earned her A.A. from SFCC, her B.A. in Studio Art from EWU, and her M.A. in English Literature and Writing from EWU. She was an English Instructor for 4 years.

In her current role, Katie assists students and faculty with the technology in the CBE Lab in building 19, where she assists students and supports learning in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography, Digital Media Production, and Digital Filmmaking classes.

Her love of the arts, passion for helping students, and knack for technology all come together in this position. She feels so blessed to be back at the college where she started her educational journey. When she’s not working, she likes to watch TV, play piano, and cuddle with her two adorable cats, Freddie and Theodore.
