Fine Arts

If you are a creative person who likes to express yourself artistically, a degree in art could lead to the perfect career for you.

In this program, you’ll grow your passion and appreciation for art, while completing the foundational courses required to transfer to a four-year university, college or art school. You’ll develop your artistic skills and techniques through faculty instruction and hands-on studio work in ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture.

Whether you want to become a professional artist, an art teacher, an art curator or an art administrator, earning a fine arts degree can help you transform your artistic talent into a career.

Fine Art Gallery

Three Native American performers, inside SFCC’s Fine Art Gallery, performing the Grass Dance to honor Indigenous People’s Day. This was part of the Masked Preservation exhibition by artist Chad “Little Coyote” Yellowjohn.

SFCC's Fine Art Gallery is an educational gallery where students and community can engage with contemporary work by a wide range of artists in a variety of media. Our students have a chance to learn from visiting artists, and even get to exhibit their own work.

We aim to ...

  • promote learning, dialogue, and critical thinking,
  • challenge inequities, and
  • to enrich the cultural vitality of the campus and community.

All our exhibits, lectures, and workshops are free and open to the public.

What You’ll Learn

  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to identify and apply the elements and principles of design in both 2D and 3D work
  • Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of art making techniques and materials utilizing observational and compositional skills
  • Analyze and problem-solve through difficulties with materials and/or processes and arrive at and implement solutions
  • Recognize and convey an understanding of diverse historical contexts, styles, and ideas that are relevant to the study of art and culture
  • Critically evaluate or critique both their own work, and that of others, in the context of technical skills within the Humanities and Communications
  • Evaluate information critically, define the scope of research/problem. Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose

You and your advisor will use this program map as a starting point to create a personal education plan customized to your needs. We meet you where you are and help you reach your goals.
