Jamie Southwell is excited to be the pathway specialist who works with students earning their business degrees. Jamie Southwell joined Spokane Falls Community College as a student in 2020 and earned his Associates in business management shortly after. After graduation, Jamie expanded his passion for the bigfoot community by joining the team himself as the business pathway specialist. Jamie’s firsthand knowledge of the program helps students understand the business pathway, and Jamie’s passion for ensuring each student feels warm and welcomed by the community shines light on the inclusion of SFCC. He enjoys hiking, listening to music, and exploring new foods on his free time.

lodie Goodman has been a dedicated member of the SFCC community since September 2000. She began her career as a French and film instructor and served as Chair of the Communication Arts & Modern Languages Department. After 18 years of teaching and advising students across campus, she transitioned to her current role as Instructional Dean. In this capacity, lodie collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to advance SFCC's mission and foster a culture of innovation and inclusivity.

lodie is passionate about mentoring and is deeply committed to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB), particularly in Community Health and Education. She is also a strong advocate for professional development, ensuring faculty and staff have opportunities to grow and thrive. She is always ready to step in—often behind the scenes—to support initiatives that enhance student success and community engagement.

In her free time, lodie enjoys spending time with her family, which includes four German Shepherds. Her hobbies include teaching and practicing yoga, writing, tending to her organic lavender field, collecting rocks, and beading.

Roshan Khattry was born and raised in Calcutta, India and moved to the United States in 1998. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from Coe College in Iowa and a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Oregon. He has been teaching Economics at SFCC since 2011. In his free time, he loves to play tennis, listen to Indian music, and cook Indian food.

Alex Pelham is originally from the mountains of Colorado. He earned his Bachelor of Arts at University of Massachusetts Boston and received his Master of Arts and Ph.D from Colorado State University. Before joining SFCC in 2020 he taught in Colorado and Boston and worked as an economist for the USDA. In his free time he enjoys exploring the outdoors near Spokane.

I was in grade school during the 1970s, a decade of enormous economic upheaval in the US. We saw unemployment and inflation reach levels not seen since before World War 2. OPEC drove oil prices through the roof, American manufacturers like the Big Three automakers lost market share, and American workers began losing jobs.

When I started college in the early 1980s, I wanted to understand all these events, so I majored in economics at a small liberal arts college. After I finished my BA, I headed to grad school at UCLA, and earned a Master’s and a Ph.D.

As I finished my graduate study, and started searching for jobs, I knew that I wanted to teach. I soon realized that if I wanted to teach at the college level, I would fit best at a community college. A few years later, I was hired at Spokane Falls, where I’ve been for over 20 years.
