Top Ranked Sasquatch

 

[Spokane, Wash.] What a difference a day makes. The warmest day of the year so far made for some great performances for the Sasquatch trackster’s at the Whitworth Sam Adams Classic on Saturday March 18. Whitworth’s brand-new Mondo track surface also provided the perfect setting and the team responded with a dozen NWAC conference top three marks on the early season performance list.

Leading the way for the women’s squad was Skilar McLean in her first meet of the season setting the top marks in the conference in both the long and triple jumps. McLean reached 16’ 6.50” in the long jump and 33’ 7” in the triple jump.

Gideon Swanson recorded an eight second personal best in the men’s 5K, running 15:30.08 the fastest time so far this year in the event. He also is the top ranked 10k runner in the conference.

Jaxson Nichols the defending NWAC high jump champion is also currently ranked number one on the conference list with a jump this week of 6’4.50”.

Other top three conference rankings were earned by Dan Close in the discus and hammer throws with marks of 133’5” and 145’ 2”, good for the number three and number two marks in the conference. Gavin Hoskinson in ranked third in the pole vault at 14’ 2”, Reise Raymond is ranked number three in the javelin with a toss of 178’, Luke Hurd has the second fastest time in the 5k behind his teammate with a time of 15:52.42. Charlotte Falstad is ranked second after running a fifty-two second personal best in the 5K blazing a 19:06.45, right on her heels is teammate Sophia Ferraro ranked third in the conference with a personal best of 19:09.55. Camille Ussher is the fastest 800m runner in the conference after her 2:25.40 effort.

A number of student-athletes also hit new season or personal best marks including Miranda Irwin in the 400 hurdles running 1:10. 39, Karrah Pope making her throwing debut in the discus with a toss of 104’ 4”, close behind her and picking up the discus for the first time since high school was Sydnee Balzer with a toss of 89’ 8”. Other season bests came from Faith Wersland with a huge personal best in the women’s hammer throw reaching out to 120’ 9”. Sydney Kinch and Sierra Harden both cleared 8’6” in the pole vault, Calli Short jumped 14’ 6” in the long jump and 31’ 11.50” in the triple.

Up next is a return to the Boppell track on Whitworth’s campus for the Whitworth Invitational and Multi Event on Thursday and Friday March 23-24.
