Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary during the 2017-18 academic year. Started in 1967 as part of Spokane Community College on property that was once Fort George Wright, in 1970, college trustees voted to create two separate, but cooperative colleges, and the Fort Wright campus was renamed Spokane Falls Community College.
Events and activities are planned throughout the year in honor of the 50th anniversary, starting with a kick-off celebration 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 at SFCC, 3410 W. Whistalks Way, Spokane.
The public is invited to campus for an afternoon of fun, food and games, followed by a drive-in movie. Enjoy a variety of free activities, including planetarium shows, entrance into the Community Colleges of Spokane Athletics soccer game, lawn games, sidewalk chalk drawing, visits with college mascot Skitch, campus tours and department demonstrations (including 3D printing in the library) and art displays.
Food will also be available for purchase from a variety of local food trucks. Then, be sure to stick around for the student government-sponsored outdoor showing of “Wonder Woman” at dusk in parking lot P9.
Outdoor activities will be moved inside the SUB in the event of inclement weather.

Currently, SFCC serves more than 8,000 students per year on the Spokane and Pullman campuses and online, offering associate degrees for students transferring to four-year institutions, career and technical programs and applied baccalaureate degrees.
