Road to the NWAC Championships

 

(Spokane, Wa) - The 2022 road to the NWAC conference championships for the Sasquatch track team ran through Nampa, Idaho on Friday and Saturday at the Northwest Nazarene University Invitational and Multi on the Brian and Nichole Bohner track facility.

Bradley Fillis and Jon Watkins lead the men’s team by winning their respective events. Fillis, the conference leader in the men’s shotput picked up another win on the season in his signature event with a winning throw and season best of 52 feet and 4.75 inches.

Watkins, also the conference leader in the 400-meter, picked up another victory in the one lap event winning in a time of 50.27 seconds.

TJ Lynch showed that he is rounding into championship shape by clearing 14 feet and 7.25 inches in the pole vault, his best jump of the season so far. He had several close attempts at the next height of 15 feet and 3 inches. His efforts move him into the number three slot on the conference performance list.

Also recording season bests in their specialties was Brandon Snider in the men’s long jump with season and lifetime best improving over a meter with a jump of 19 feet and 0.25 inches. Reise Raymond upped his mark in the javelin with a season best and the number seven throw in the conference with a mark of 152 feet and 1 inch. Colby Anderson continues to show solid improvement in the hammer throw, recording a season best of 143 feet and 2 inches, good for the fifth best mark in the conference.

The women were led by Sasquatch three-sport star Maddie Gebers. Fresh off the basketball court and the NWAC tournament, Gebers made her season debut in the javelin throw finishing in second place overall in the meet with a throw of 125 feet and 3 inches. This ranks her at number two on the conference performance list.

Running her best 400-meter hurdles race of the year was Kiley Cutler. Cutler took over a second off her season best time with a strong 1:07.05 despite having to the battle the wind down the back stretch. Her time moves her up into the number three position in the conference

The full squad will be back from spring break this week for the World Peace Meet at Whitworth University’s Boppell track facility on Friday, April 8th beginning at 2:00 pm.
