CCS hires new women's head basketball coach

An assistant women’s basketball coach at Whitworth University will be joining the Community Colleges of Spokane as head coach of the women’s basketball program.

Jessica Kramer played basketball at Eastern Oregon University from 2010 to 2013 and at Whitworth from 2013 to 2015 before becoming assistant coach at Whitworth after an internship with the team.

“I have great confidence that Jessica Kramer is going to inspire and mentor our student athletes to become the best versions of themselves while at CCS,” said James Fitzgerald, CCS athletic director. “Her personality and people skills along with her experience will greatly benefit our women’s basketball team.”

Kramer studied Exercise Science while a student at EOU and then received a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2015 from Whitworth and a master’s in business from Whitworth in 2018.

“I would like to thank James Fitzgerald and the hiring committee for giving me the opportunity to be the head women’s basketball coach at the Community Colleges of Spokane,” Kramer said. “I feel very fortunate to succeed Bruce Johnson and the legacy he left at Spokane Falls. I would also like to thank my coaching mentors Joial Griffith and Helen Higgs for the impact they have had in my coaching career. I love college basketball and the platform it creates for student athletes to compete and develop mentally and emotionally in a supportive environment. I am so excited to be a part of the CCS family and for the future of our program!”

CCS’s longtime women’s basketball coach Bruce Johnson retired early in 2020 after 32 years. An assistant coach and acting athletic director, Ryan Bodecker, stepped into the position in the spring and then left for the athletic director’s position at Riverside School District in Chatteroy.
