Spokane Falls and Spokane Community College Extend Spring Break and Move Many Courses Online

To support the health and well-being of our community and meet new safety requirements issued by Gov. Jay Inslee today, Community Colleges of Spokane’s two colleges – Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College -- will move the majority of our courses to online delivery or alternative methods beginning Tuesday, March 17, and continue in this format at least through April 24. Lab courses and technical and health courses that require in-person instruction will continue to meet on our campuses, but will do so with additional health safety precautions of social distancing, ongoing cleaning and reasonable class sizes.

We also have decided to delay the start of Spring Quarter by one week. Spring Quarter will now begin on April 13. Our students will be on their break from March 26 - April 12.  This additional time will allow our faculty time to adapt their courses to online delivery or to modify labs and technical areas to meet social distancing and health requirements. We will continue to offer full student support services on our campuses and will be providing extra assistance to help students transition to online learning. Financial aid payments will not be delayed and still will be issued on April 6.

“We are committed to doing our part to protect the health of our community and will continue to support our students as they work so diligently to complete their education with us,” said Christine Johnson, Chancellor of CCS. “Our faculty and staff are amazing educators and professionals who are dedicated to adapting to this challenging situation.”

SCC and SFCC already have an extensive and successful online education program and we are confident that our faculty and staff will work collaboratively to ensure these additional online courses will provide high-quality, comprehensive programs.
