Departing CCS Trustee reflects on 10 years of service

More than a decade ago, Governor Christine Gregoire asked Bridget Piper to serve as a member of the CCS Board of Trustees. At that point, she already had served as a volunteer member of the board of the CCS Foundation for two terms, including time as the Foundation’s president. She gave an enthusiastic yes and has volunteered her time as a leader for CCS in the two roles for nearly two decades. Her final board meeting was in October and a new trustee will begin serving in November.

Cyberspace. Cyberpunk. Cyberstalking. Cyberbullying. These days, you can stick an internet-laden prefix on just about anything. And odds are – good or bad – it’ll have its time and place in 2020.

But what about cybersecurity? At once a buzzword with a lineage as old as the internet itself, cybersecurity – like its world wide web counterpart – is now an integral, significant part of our lives whether we recognize it or not.

At Spokane Falls Community College, we recognize it.

O'Day art exhibit opens at SFCC Gallery

A mixed media art exhibit by a recently retired art instructor at Spokane Falls Community College opened today at the SFCC Fine Arts Gallery and continues through Oct. 22.

Although the SFCC campus is closed to drop-in visitors because of the pandemic, anyone interested in visiting the art exhibit by Thomas O’Day can make arrangements by calling him at 533-3710 or emailing thomas.oday@sfcc.spokane.edu

New class teaches internal COVID-10 contact tracing

Using the direct experience of a first responder fighting COVID-19, a new four-hour class offered by Community Colleges of Spokane aims to help businesses and organizations develop internal contact tracing within their organization to minimize the effect of COVID-19. Participants of this class will learn the process of developing and maintaining internal contract tracing, how it protects their internal and external customers, and supports regional contract tracing work of the epidemiologists at the Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD).

CCS nets $4.3 million in extra state pandemic support

A tough financial time at CCS got a boost this week when the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges approved giving it $4.3 million in one-time funds from the Governor's Emergency Education Relief fund.
