Testing Center

Placement testing is an essential key to student success at Spokane Falls Community College.

All incoming students are required to take the English Directed Self Placement prior to class registration unless:

  • You have transferred college-level English credits to SFCC.
  • You have completed an assessment within the last year at a Washington State Community College; please submit a Reciprocity Form.
  • You submitted your high school transcript, ACT, SAT, and/or Smarter Balanced test scores to the Testing Center (see SFCC Placement tab).

All incoming students are required to take the MyMath Placement test prior to registering for any math course unless:

  • You have transferred college-level Math credits to SFCC.
  • You submitted your high school transcript, ACT, SAT, and/or Smarter Balanced test scores to the Testing Center (see SFCC Placement tab).

Placement Testing

Placement testing at SFCC consists of two components: English and math. Students will complete the Zingtree Directed Self Placement process and their first attempt at our MyMath Test.

  • The testing session will last approximately 2.5 hours
  • Receipt for $30 Testing Fee AND valid photo ID must be presented for testing.
  • Fee payable at Cashier window (Bldg. 17) or by phone at (509) 533-3569 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Alternative Placement

If you have graduated from high school within the last three years, you may be eligible to bypass placement testing based on your high school GPA and/or test scores.

Drop In Placement Sessions

The Testing Center administers placement assessments during specific dates and times. New students will be enrolled in New Student Orientation (class registration happens here!) upon completion of both assessments.

You may choose to make an appointment if you would like to let us know that you will be attending. If you want to view the dates without making an appointment, you may follow the Drop-In Placement Session Schedule link above.

Bring VALID photo ID and receipt for the $30 Testing Fee, payable at the Cashier window in Bldg. 17 or over the phone at (509)533-3569.

PLEASE NOTE: Students who plan to drop in for testing after 4:00 p.m. must pay the $30 testing fee ahead of time. The receipt, or receipt number, will be valid for 90 days after purchase.

Testing at Other Locations

Are you a new student who needs to complete their placement testing at another location? Please visit the 'Proctored Testing > New Student' tab to arrange a test in a location closer to home!

Alternative Placement

You may be eligible to bypass placement testing based on your high school GPA and/or test scores.

Running Start English Placement Testing

Potential Running Start students who do not qualify to bypass the placement test are required to take the DSP Challenge.

  • Valid photo identification is required.
  • Receipt for $30 Testing Fee (payable at the Cashiers window) must be presented for testing.

Please call our front desk at (509) 533-3401 to make an appointment for Running Start testing. Be sure to mention Running Start! Have your ctclink ID number ready; you will need it!

  • You must cancel 24 hours prior to your appointment if you are unable to attend your scheduled testing appointment, or you may be charged a $30 NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee.

Running Start Math options

MyMath Test Placement Testing

The SFCC Math Department has developed the MyMath Test program to provide students with 16 weeks of online access to a study plan and practice tests as well as two attempts at the placement test. Students may be able to test into higher-level math courses, saving time and money.

All students are strongly encouraged to complete practice tests using the MyMath test account. Practicing using other online resources will not be helpful in learning how to navigate your MyMath test account or prepare you for what is on the test. Students are required to know how to login and navigate MyMath test from practicing.

No instructions will be provided as to how to login or which test to take at testing time.

MyMath Test Activation Instructions

  1. Pay the $30 testing fee with the Cashiers, either in person or over the phone by calling (509) 533-3569.
  2. Submit an online form to request that your account be activated.
  3. You will receive an email from the Testing Center with your login information, expiration date, and a tutorial video to help you get started. Allow 7-10 business days for your request to be processed.
    • CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER! Emails sent from the Testing Center are sent to student's spam folder more often than not.
    • Please tell your email provider that our emails are NOT SPAM to prevent this issue.

    • Drop-in testing dates are posted in the "Announcements" page on your MMT homepage. No appointment necessary!
