Looking for something new and different? Join the fun with this beginning level Belly Dance Class. Movement, music, culture and history weave a fascinating tapestry of rhythm, entrancing melody and expressive dance. We will cover the basics of Belly Dance hip drops, shimmies, undulation, circles, and sways. Belly Dance provides gentle core toning, improves balance, posture, and confidence. Class includes warm up, dance technique, and routines, rhythms, music, and cultural notes. Come have fun learning Belly Dance with an experienced teacher. QiGong is a mind and body healing technique that combines simple, repetitive, physical motions, with mediation and mindful breathing. QiGong has many healing properties; it can improve blood pressure, increase blood circulation and reduce stress. QiGong is a great activity for all physical abilities because exercises can be done either sitting in a chair or while standing. In QiGong Level One, students will learn and practice relaxing breathing exercises and a series of nine structured postures. No special equipment is required. Participants only need comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and interest in physical wellbeing. Class will be held at Southside Senior and Community Center. Fitness Level 1 2 3.

The Sun Salutation is composed of a series of poses that condition and tone every part of the body. Learn how to correctly do each step in Sun Salutation A and B using the variation best suited for you. Increase your strength and conditioning as we continue practicing Sun Salutations for 4 weeks. We will focus on coordinating movement with breath which can help reduce blood pressure and increase mental clarity. There are variations for differing abilities. Self-Myofascial Release: Foam Rolling Techniques

Using a foam roller kneads muscles releasing knots and stiffness and soothes joints which increases flexibility and improves joint range of motion. SMFR feels great (like a massage) and it can actually correct any muscle imbalances in the body by helping muscles to relax and loosen to lengthen for stretching and preparation for exercise or recovery from exercise. SMFR can relieve muscle soreness post workout (clears lactic acid) and it can prevent it (keeps lactic acid from forming) when done before a workout. This class will be held online via zoom. Tai Chi: Beginning is designed to introduce seniors (55+) to the Chinese art of Tai Chi Chuan (Tai Chi). This gentle exercise form improves balance, lowers blood pressure, and contributes to a general improvement of health and well-being. Tai Chi: Continuing is designed for seniors (55+) who have completed at least one Beginning Tai Chi class and want to progress to the next level of difficulty. This class has an accelerated pace and demands greater focus and concentration as compared to the beginning class. Tai Chi is gentle exercise form that improves balance, lowers blood pressure, and contributes to a general improvement of health and well-being. Students are taught an intermediate form (36 movements) based on Yang style Tai Chi Chuan short form (54 movements). Fitness Level: 2 3.
