Books for Warriors Scholarship

The CCS Chatman/Fairchild Book Scholarship was established to provide required college textbooks to successfully complete general education level college courses at the Community Colleges of Spokane. Textbooks are limited to acceptable general education level courses in support of the United States Air Force (USAF) Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) technical degree programs. General education level courses include oral communication, written communication, mathematics, social science and humanities.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Basic Student Eligibility

    • Admitted CCS student with an assigned student identification number.

    • USAF military member serving on active duty status, a member of the USAF Reserves or member of the USAF Air Guard.

  • Additional Requirements

    • U.S. citizen or U.S permanent resident.

    • Good military standing within respective military unit of assignment.

  • Awarding and Notification Process

    • Selection Officials: Books For Warriors Scholarship Committee (Fairchild AFB).

    • Student can receive multiple scholarships, but selected recipients shall be limited to:

      • Financial need-based scholarship recipients are eligible for two textbook scholarships (one per academic session) to be used within a two year period.

      • Merit-based recipients (3.5 cumulative GPA or higher) are eligible for three textbook scholarships (one per academic session) to be used within a three year period.

      • USAF Purple Heart, Bronze Star or any higher level USAF service-connected medal recipients are eligible to receive four textbook scholarships (one per academic session) to be used within a four year period.

    • Students limited to a maximum of four (4) scholarships.

Application Process

Submit scholarship application form and all required requested scholarship documents no later than two months prior to the start date/month of each CCS academic session (e.g., Nov., Feb. 1, May 1 and/or July 1). Start dates for CCS academic sessions are detailed on the school’s website. If awarded a scholarship, you will be notified by the scholarship committee coordinator and your college textbooks will be provided for the next academic session.
